Is everyone aware of the super secret Nick Cave/Dirty Three mystery track on the X-files soundtrack?
If you look at the disk it lists 15 tracks including Nick's "Red Right Hand". But there is a secret track #0.
The only way to get to it is start playing track 1 and then hit the backward manual search button on your cd player until you get to around -12 minutes into the first song. Hitting track skip does not work, only the manual search works. What you find then is "Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum" (Dread the Passage of Jesus, For He Will Not Return) which is a new version of Dirty Three's "Better Go Home Now"- with a tres cool Cave spoken word performance. Its about 6 minutes song
This is then followed by a Dirty Three version of the X-Files TV theme. Neat-O! I'm sure many people will buy the soundtrack and never know the track exists. The only clue that it is there is in the booklet where it says: "Nick Cave and the Dirty Three would like you to know that "0" is also a number."
It turns out that certain CD players cannot access the hidden tracks, as noted on the back of the CD case. The Sony CFD-550 (Boombox), Harman/Kardon HD7325, and the Kenwood DP-2050 are some of the few that cannot. In general, computer-based audio CD player programs are unable to access the pre-roll area. As well, higher end CD players often can't access the songs. There is a RealAudio clip of "Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum" available on the Audio page. |
I was reading through McPaper on the Net (that's USA Today for the uninformed) when I saw the following about the X-Files CD. My sarcasm is in emphasis. "There's more to Songs in The Key of X than meets the ears. But X doesn't mark the spot, so good luck finding it. The hip all-star soundtrack, inspired by Fox's paranormal X-Files series, contains two hidden tunes by Nick Cave and Australia's trendy Dirty Three." So Nick is hip, and the D3 are trendy... hmmm "Warner Bros. vice-President Geoffrey Weiss...describes Cave's songs as 'incredible, really long and out of step with the rest of the record. Hiding them fits the X-Files idea that there are things we don't know' Cave and Dirty Three interpret the X-Files theme (also done on Key of X by Mark Snow and PM Dawn) and a creepy, violin-driven narrative, Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum. The Latin title means 'Dread the passage of Jesus, for he will not return,' a message scrawled by captive demons in Cave's eerie tale..." And now Nick is eerie, and D3 are creepy... |
The episode [that Nick's Red Right Hand appeared in] was [titled] "Ascension" and it is available on video. [Out of the entire soundtrack, only a few of the tracks have actually been used in the series. Nick's is heard in the above mentioned episode "Ascension" or "Duane Barry".] |
