Barely had the ink dried on the current local edition of Rolling
Stone than someone had re-keyed Michael Dwyer's complete interview
with Nick Cave from that issue and placed it on the Nick Cave
mailing list for any of 40 million people around the world with an
interest in such matters to read and download for free. Soon after a
message from Dwyer was circulated to all members of the list asking
for his feature to go no further than the list for awhile 'cause he
was in the process of selling the interview to English paper Melody
Maker for publication in December.
A number of Internet mailing lists I subscribe to have recently
contained fairly hefty slabs of copy from some other Australian
music publications - Juice and some street papers in particular.
It's not always clear whether this has been done with the permission
of the writer and/or the publication in which the material originally
appeared.
