           from "Viva Las Vegas".

Comments: The Big Day Out tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Mercy is back, first time since 1989, featured Warren Ellis, who 
also played on The Willow Garden/The Weeping Song/The Mercy Seat. 
Where The Wild Roses Grow featured Kylie Minogue. 
On Stagger Lee, Jim Sclavunos played drums and Thomas Wydler did 
percussion. Note that the Murder Ballads are hardly represented 
in the setlists.

Comments: First live performance of O'Malley's Bar; Wild Roses was 
done with Blixa doing the Kylie part. The new song Far From Me has
Nick on piano and Jim on organ. Mercy, never played in the 90s
before 96, remains in the setlist. Some old live favorites are 
disappearing: Tupelo, Papa Won't Leave You Henry, and only a single 
performance of The Ship Song.

CONCERTS

Comments: European Festival tour. Warren Ellis on (most of) Mercy, 
Willow Garden, Henry Lee, Wild Roses, The Weeping Song, The Mercy Seat,  
everywhere (including South-America) except in Koln. PJ Harvey sang on 
Henry Lee. Kylie on WTWRG in London, Blixa did her part on other shows.
Parts of the Koln concert, and the complete Santiago gig were 
broadcast on TV. I have only little info on the Buenos Aires dates.
In Santiago, Red Right Hand was aborted and the set was shortened
due to a hostile audience yelling for Cypress Hill.

*  We get video clips to Henry Lee and Stagger Lee.
*  Nick appears in the August issue of the porn magazine "Hustler"
*  Nick wins ARIA awards, and doesn't want to be part of the MTV Awards.
*  Number one chart positions and huge sales (over 600,000) 
   for Murder Ballads.
*  The goodson mailing list has survived Nick's success. Many new people
   have joined us, but the mailing list has remained one of the finest
   lists. Thanks everybody. Thanks Oliver for running it so well.
*  Rerelease of Birthday Party catalogue on Shock Records.
*  Peter Sempel shows another film with NC content in New York City.
*  1996 covers of Nick Cave songs by 
    - Teodross Avery (Loverman), 
    - Goethes Erben (Sitz Der Gnade (= The Mercy Seat))
    - New Waver (The Mercy Seat)
    - Frank Bennett (Red Right Hand)
    - Paul Kelly (God's Hotel, now on a live album)

*  The Cave Inn "http://www.zephyr.net/users/cave/" has become a fine
   WWW site for Nick Cave information. Thank you, Ross, you did a great
   job! Other WWW sites are coming up as well.
*  The Bad Seeds record a fantastic successor to Murder Ballads. It's
   called "The Boatman's Call" - to be released in February 1997.
