Comments: European Festival tour. Warren Ellis on (most of) Mercy,
Willow Garden, Henry Lee, Wild Roses, The Weeping Song, The Mercy Seat,
everywhere (including South-America) except in Koln. PJ Harvey sang on
Henry Lee. Kylie on WTWRG in London, Blixa did her part on other shows.
Parts of the Koln concert, and the complete Santiago gig were
broadcast on TV. I have only little info on the Buenos Aires dates.
In Santiago, Red Right Hand was aborted and the set was shortened
due to a hostile audience yelling for Cypress Hill.

4. More 1996 Highlights
(In no particular order.)
* We get video clips to Henry Lee and Stagger Lee.
* Nick appears in the August issue of the porn magazine "Hustler"
* Nick wins ARIA awards, and doesn't want to be part of the MTV Awards.
* Number one chart positions and huge sales (over 600,000)
for Murder Ballads.
* The goodson mailing list has survived Nick's success. Many new people
have joined us, but the mailing list has remained one of the finest
lists. Thanks everybody. Thanks Oliver for running it so well.
* Rerelease of Birthday Party catalogue on Shock Records.
* Peter Sempel shows another film with NC content in New York City.
* 1996 covers of Nick Cave songs by
- Teodross Avery (Loverman),
- Goethes Erben (Sitz Der Gnade (= The Mercy Seat))
- New Waver (The Mercy Seat)
- Frank Bennett (Red Right Hand)
- Paul Kelly (God's Hotel, now on a live album)
- Midnight Oil (The Good Son, live only)
- Howard New (Straight To You, live only)
* Many covers and parodies of Where The Wild Roses Grow.
* Robert Brokenmouth publishes his book "Nick Cave - The Birthday Party
and Other Epic Adventures".
* Rebroadcasts of "September Songs","Straight To You", and other
documentary-like items (e.g. JJJ-specials), mostly in Australia.
* By now, numerous compilation albums contain Nick Cave songs, and
several are used in film soundtracks.
* New old Boys Next Door live recordings (audio and video) have
surfaced.
* Nick appears in Michael Hausman's film "Rhinoceros". (Yet to be
released.)
* Einstuerzende Neubauten's Ende Neu.
* Nick appears in Dirty Three's video clip "Everything's Fucked".
* Theatre play for The Ass Saw The Angel in Denmark; many new
translations and reprints of this book, as well as of King Ink.
* The Cave Inn "http://www.zephyr.net/users/cave/" has become a fine
WWW site for Nick Cave information. Thank you, Ross, you did a great
job! Other WWW sites are coming up as well.
* The Bad Seeds record a fantastic successor to Murder Ballads. It's
called "The Boatman's Call" - to be released in February 1997.
